Collective

Vicki McFarland explores the emotional response evoked by colour, texture and form. By eliminating the brush from the painting process, Vicki allows her intuition to guide her as she encourages the flow of paint across the canvas. She draws inspiration from nature, from patterns and textures and from music. The final aesthetic of each piece is the result of many layers of paint which interact, obscure and build upon each other. The freedom, emotion and optimism in Vicki’s creative process is reflected in the finished product.

“There is nothing more rewarding than expressing feelings and emotion in a piece of art. My journey is ongoing and my paintings reflect my passion”

This Dream of You

Yes, inspired by another Diana Krall playlist. This dream of you was painted to the song by the same name and was originally recorded by Bob Dylan
There’s a moment when all old things become new again
But that moment might have come and gone
All I have and all I know
Is this dream of you
Which keeps me living on

Dust in the wind

The artist painted this piece to the song by Kansas of the same name:
I close my eyes
Only for a moment and the moment’s gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity

Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind

Lovely earthy tones, with just a touch of bronze…floating thru the piece, like dust in the wind

Me and My Shadow

Me and My Shadow, painted to the song by the same name. I was influenced to add a smaller but brighter image to the right of the larger image. A Shadow that was trying to meet expectations and the brilliance of it’s larger counterpart. Hence the darker blue in the second image. Something of it’s own that stands out and is uniquely identifiable.
Piece was accepted into the OSA 148th juried exhibition.

Poise

Poise is a wonderful serene piece full of lush color and a little glamour. This piece would compliment any modern decor. There is a richness in the contrast between the white space and the rose gold tones that provide the final layer.

Moody Blues

“I was listening to a playlist with alot of Moody Blue’s songs on it…like Tuesday afternoon and Nights in White Satin. It was easy listening and reflective…the music allowed me the space to create” Hence the name Moody Blues, which reflects the song choice and the colors used in this piece.

How Blue is the Ocean, How Pink is the Sky

Softness is the key to this painting. Inspired by the new Diana Krall album and her song How Deep is the Ocean. Soft Blue and pink lines balance the painting.

With Love

A lovely story. This painting started in the fall of 2018 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I sent the rolled larger canvas on a trip back thru the US and then hung it un-stretched for about 6 months while I debated how to finish it. It was quite special to me and I really spent quite a bit of time deciding how I wanted the finished piece to feel. With Love, an honorarium to all of those we love and admire and want only the best for.

Piper’s Laughter

This piece blends tones of Orange, Red and Pink together to create a warm, restful work of art. I was painting in this palette quite a bit mid to late 2018, probably due to being a first time grandmother of beautiful baby girls.

Red White and True

This painting was finished on July 1st and named to celebrate that wonderful time of the year…bright sunny skies, warm nights and for my American friends and followers “Red, White and True (Blue)”

Feel the Thunder

Painted to the song of the same name by the Imagine Dragon’s. This piece is dramatic and modern. There is a strong statement of colour and lines that makes it visually mesmerizing.

French Kiss

This is the third “kiss” painting completed by the artist. The only color in the painting on the stark black and white background is a beautiful, bright pink

Vivification

“Vivification” to enliven or animate or to bring life to. This certainly rings true for this thoughtful piece which combines the anchoring of darker blue against the pinks and lime greens. This piece shows well in any setting and enlivens any environment.

Under the Coral

Under the Coral was one of four pieces created in 2018 after a trip to Key West. She loves the beautiful colors and textures found just under the surface of the ocean and tried to recreate that feeling abstractly.

Another painting inspired by the sparkling waters in the Key’s. The movement in this piece is meant to represent sea grass moving in the beautiful aqua water.

Renewal

Renewal sparked a change in pace for me. This piece has layers of beautiful bright color and then is centered by the splash of green. A very large piece that would be wonderful profiled on a large wall. Can be hung vertically or horizontally as painting is signed on the back.

Jumping in Muddy Puddles

This piece, because of it’s palette is named after a popular British children’s program, Peppa Pig. Those with children or grandchildren are familiar with one of Peppa’s favorite activities “Jumping in Muddy Puddles” Warm, rich palette on a beautiful large canvas.
